The base hourly rate for this position is $19.43 JOB OBJECTIVE: Responsible for operating the hot end of the wool unit on a professional level and complying with the Production Superintendent, under direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor. Working from general instructions from the plant management team, and all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements Performs any duties connected with the hot end of the wool unit, including assisting in changing of pots, burners and rollers. Must remain on job until relieved. Operates hot end unit, lining up forming section and keeping fibers lined up in upper and lower guides; maintains continuous marble feed to pots and operates them so that each pot has the same glass output; continuously observes unit for improper performance and keeps all equipment in proper adjustment to produce a quality product and maintain the unit in good operating condition; may receive assistance and guidance of the Machine Chief in obtaining improved operation of the unit. Continuously observes for and corrects poor pot operation, stringers, binderless clumps. etc. Assists Machine Chief in changing over unit from one product to another, performing any duties necessary to minimize job loss Assists Machine Chief in shutting down a unit for periodic cleanup or other reasons and restarting unit. Works with other members of crew during shutdown or cleanup, performing any duties necessary to complete the job in minimum time. Keeps all parts of the forming section, including rolls, guides, pressure bars, etc. clean at all times; keeps the tops of the pots and forming tube free of marbles and fly; maintains other equipment and work area clean and neat at all times Observes for malfunctioning of equipment and for unusual operating conditions and notifies supervision so that corrective action may be taken. Verbally communicates to the spooler when scrap is being run by use of signal light system and. Must be qualified on the more complex subordinate jobs. Read gauges and instruments; some analytical ability Records information relative to the operation and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to work performed including neat and accurate records of pot and burner performance, roll speed, etc. Use safe work practices and reports hazardous conditions at all times. Wears dual ear protection equipment when working in vicinity of hot end units. Keeps equipment and work areas clean and orderly. Performs other related duties as directed, including duties of lower classification. Ensures that all 5S areas of responsibility have been completed before end of shift. Wears all required PPE. Mixing and handling resins and other chemicals while using computers and other forms of measuring devices. Need dye full and basement area clean. Clean and change Cuno filters, while keeping the area clean. Follow safety guidelines in the defiance complex. Wear proper PPE. Follow all general shop rules for defiance complex. Cleanup your work area (unit). Attend all monthly safety meetings. Complete safety/beware audits on a monthly basis. Complete computer based training and all other programs needed to stay in compliance with company policy’s JOB MEASUREMENTS: Effective interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in team based environment, flexibility, the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment in a safe manor, demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities during the course of the day. JOB LOCATION: The responsibilities for this job are performed on the production plant floor. Conditions are often hot, with temperatures ranging from 70-115 degrees. The environment may be dirty from oils/grease, and may be noisy from the machinery. Required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times. EQUIPMENT: (i.e. Machines, Devices, Tools, Etc., used in job performance) Forklift and other material handling equipment Measurement devices for product quality, temperature control recording instruments, fabricating and facing equipment Use of some hand tools BACKGROUND/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (i.e. high school diploma, degree, specialized knowledge, roles, skills and/or expertise) High School diploma or GED Flexible in work and assignments SKILL Lift Truck and Material Handling Equipment Licensed to operate Safety Knowledge of all safety requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (i.e. What the job requires – standing, setting, lifting, etc.) Note: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to stand for long periods of time on cement floors Must be able to walk, stoop, kneel and climb ladders and staircases.
