Hill County Kids began serving local students in 2010. We found out that up to 83% of Hillsboro’s school children were relying on the free or reduced cost lunch program offered in our schools.
With the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, HISD is now providing lunches for all students at no cost, but we know that many of these children do not have sufficient food accessible to them on the weekends. Hillsboro ISD and its Superintendent and Counselors helped identify the children most in need of assistance. Their identity is not released to us.
We put together a low cost “kid friendly” menu, and the “snack pack” bags are delivered to the schools by volunteers and then distributed by the school counselors to the students.
We currently serve an average of 200 Hillsboro students in Head Start through Junior High. The program has now been extended to include Bynum School, and our eventual goal is to serve all of Hill County. You can help by donating time or money to our program.
